Hayden shines as #10 Marauders edged 3-0 on road by #1 Beavers

MINOT, ND – Kyle Hayden turned aside 29 shots in a midweek matchup between a pair of nationally ranked teams but his efforts weren't enough for #10 University of Mary in a 3-0 loss at #1 Minot State University. The Marauders netminder limited the Beavers to a single goal in each period in the fourth meeting of the season between the two Highway 83 rivals, with all three goals scoring on the power play.

The Marauders slip to 15-8-0-0-1 (W-L-OTL-SOW-SOL) overall in UMary's first season playing American Collegiate Hockey Association Men's Division 1. The Beavers are 20-4-0.

This is the first time the Marauders have suffered three consecutive losses since December 1-4, 2021.

The Marauders held a potent Beavers attack in check most of the night. When skating at full strength, UMary kept Minot State without a goal. UMary held Minot State to 32 total shots, the fewest of the season in the four meetings. The previous low was 39 in a 3-1 Beavers home win on December 13, 2023.

UMary was cited for just three penalties all night. And each time, Minot State dented the Marauders net.

The Beavers opened the scoring at 10:50 of the first period on a Troy Hamilton goal with a man advantage. Reece Henry, who assisted on the opening goal, posted a power play goal at 8:32 of the second. Minot State sealed the contest with a Reid Arnold goal at 8:50 of the third period, the third power play goal of the evening.

Hayden had nine saves in the first and third periods and 14 in the second period. Minot State's Riley Wallace stopped all 19 shot attempts by UMary.

The Marauders had three power play opportunities in the game.

UMary next takes to the ice January 20-21 when the Marauders host Illinois State University in Midwest College Hockey action, the first of three straight home games. UMary was scheduled to host Northern Illinois University on January 13-14 but the Huskies forfeited both contests due to travel issues.
