MINOT, ND - The University of Mary Softball team battled hard in another neutral site series away from home. Four Marauders turned in multi-hit days as the Marauders dropped a pair of four run games to Wayne State College 4-0 and 9-5 from the MSU Dome.
GAME ONE
The Marauders (5-22, 0-8 NSIC) couldn't gather much rhythm offensively in the first of two contests with the Wildcats (9-23, 4-5 NSIC) falling 4-0.
Nicole Eckhardt had a solid start despite earning the loss, competing through five complete innings and striking out six batters and walking only one despite four earned runs over the fourth and fifth frames.
Jamison Ness was solid once again in relief, pitching two scoreless innings yielding no hits, striking out two and walking only one.
Grace Lucka was strong in the win for the Wildcats, allowing only one base hit and three walks while going the distance for the complete game shutout.
Janelle Bergmann knocked the Marauders only base hit of the game in the fourth inning.
Brooke McClure drew two walks and
Francesca Villaneda also reached on a walk.
GAME TWO
The Marauders were perpetually at the Wildcats heels in game two, but a late comeback attempt ran out of time as UMary came up just short 9-5 in the nightcap.
Kaylee Kannegiesser had a great game hitting 3-4 with a triple and scoring the first run for the Marauders.
Madison Wszolek made great contact at the plate going 2-3 with a double, triple, and a run scored.
Brooke De Jonge came up big with runners in scoring position, going 2-2 with 2 RBIs and scoring a run of her own and walking once.
Emari Evans battled hard through nine batters in the first inning, but the Wildcats capitalized on early base runners and big hits to the outfield gaps to plate four runs.
Hannah Chambers and
Jamison Ness were solid in relief.
Janelle Bergmann and
Sariah Perez both made great contact through their at-bats, both going 1-4. Bergmann drove Kannegiesser in for the first run of the game.
Brooke McClure and
Erin Murphy both also had an RBI each, with Murphy and
Mckenzie Reinhardt both executing sacrifice bunts perfectly in the game.
