SIOUX FALLS, SD - The University of Mary Tennis team's season ended Saturday in the NSIC Semifinals after Minnesota State clinched the match 4-0. The Marauders finished 11-6 overall and 9-2 in the Northern Sun. Their 11 wins were the most since the 2018-19 season, and the 9 wins in conference play were the most since the 2014 season. Saturday's match also marked the first time UMary made it back to the semifinal round of the NSIC tournament since the 2019 championships in Minnetonka, MN.Â
"Although we lost, my athletes put up a fight," said Head Coach Vida Saliendra. "I am proud of their performance."
The Mavericks got an early advantage by winning the #1 (4-6) and #3 doubles (2-6) matches. The #2 match went unfinished.Â
Samantha Purpura fell first 2-6, 1-6 in #6 singles.
Doaa Farouk Mohamed battled back in the second set but ultimately fell next 1-6, 4-6 in the #2 matchup.Â
A day after her clutch performance to keep the Marauders season alive,
Emily Needham battled hard but fell 5-7, 4-6 in the #5 matchup. The Mavericks would clinch the match 4-0 with this win and earn their place in the NSIC Championship match Sunday against Augustana.Â
Chloe Chong,
Hala Hossam Awad, and
Ilona Freitag's matches all went unfinished.Â
For back-to-back seasons, the Marauders had four individuals finish with winning records in
