Hull paces Marauders attack in series finale with #22 Mavericks

WAYNE, NE – University of Mary hopes of claiming a series win over #22 Minnesota State University was stymied when the Mavericks jumped out to an early lead on the way to a 14-7 win over the Marauders. UMary won the opener of the three game Northern Sun series before Minnesota State came back to win the last two contests.

In a series originally scheduled for Bismarck, ND, but located to Wayne, NE, the Marauders (11-14 overall, 4-6 NSIC) claimed game one 5-2 behind a complete game performance by Halen Knoll. A couple big inning late in game two caried the Mavericks (19-6, 9-2) to a Saturday spit. The Mavericks continued their string scoring pace to capture game three and the series.

Minnesota State took advantage of a pair of UMary miscues to score four unearned runs in the top of the first inning while producing just one hit.

The Marauders immediately followed with a run in the bottom of the first. A Michael Polson leadoff double just inside the bag at third and a ground out put him in position to score on a Derek Shoen groundout to pull UMary within 4-1.

After a scoreless second, the Mavericks posted five in the third to take control of the contest.

The Marauders once again produced double digit hits against the nationally-ranked Mavericks. UMary had ten hits in game one and 15 in game two before adding 10 more in game three. For the series UMary held a 35-30 edge in hits.

Redshirt freshman Zach Cook hit the Marauders lone home run of the game, a solo shot in the 3rd inning for hist first career round tripper.

Noah Hull finished 3-for-5. The UMary left fielder drove in three runs in the game. Krece Papierski and Derek Shoen both went 2-for-5 with a double and a run scored. Shoen also had an RBI.

Jaxon Zanolli was solid in relief for the Marauders. He allowed just two hits and one run in 3.0 innings with two strikeouts.

Four Mavericks scored multiple runs with DH Brock Johnson leading the way with three. Mikey Gottschalk has two hits and drove in three.

UMARY-SIOUX FALLS TUESDY DOUBLEHEADER MOVING TO OMAHA, NE
The University of Mary baseball doubleheader scheduled against the University of Sioux Falls is moving south. Originally scheduled to be played in Sioux Falls, SD, on Tuesday, April 4, anticipated inclement weather has forced the Northern Sun contests to be moved to Omaha, NE.
