FARGO, ND - A day after they pulled off a comeback victory, the University of Mary Tennis team dominated Upper Iowa 7-0 to end their regular season with a clean sweep in Sunday's match, marking five wins in a row heading into conferences.
The Marauders will enter the NSIC Championships as the third seed with a 10-5 overall record and 9-2 in the Northern Sun. Their first match will be against Winona State University on Friday, April 21. UMary will face Winona State six days after their 4-3 win over the Warriors.
The NSIC Championships take place April 21-23 from Sioux Falls, SD at the Huether Family Match Pointe facility.
The Marauders won both doubles matches to start Sunday strong.
Chloe Chong and
Ilona Freitag won 6-0 for their 10th win together.
Doaa Farouk Mohamed and
Hala Hossam Awad won 6-1 for their 9th win on the season.
While the two duos were competing in doubles,
Samantha Purpura started singles play strong for the Marauders, earning a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Katie O' Brien in #5 singles.
Chloe Chong earned an early 6-4, 4-1 victory in #1 singles as Varvara Ogorodnikova retired in the middle of the set two. Chong is now 8-5 overall.
Doaa Farouk Mohamed finished 6-0, 6-2 over Johanna Valle for her 12th win on the season and 7th in a row.
The last two wins in singles put a definitive stamp on the Marauders dominating team performance.
Ilona Freitag won 6-0, 6-0 over Elaina Wall in #4 singles for her 10th in her sophomore season.
Hala Hossam Awad followed shortly with another 6-0, 6-0 win over Rafaela Tavares. Awad is now 14-1 as a true freshman and still undefeated against DII opponents.
