Kannegiesser, McClure lead Marauders against Mustangs

SIOUX FALLS, SD - After more schedule adjustments moved the first series of the weekend to Sioux Falls, SD on Sunday, the University of Mary Softball team dropped both games to Southwest Minnesota State 11-3 and 5-1.

GAME ONE
Brooke McClure, Kaylee Kannegiesser, and Devyn Ritz each collected two hits in Sunday's first game, but the Marauders (5-28, 0-14 NSIC) still fell to the Mustangs (10-23, 5-9 NSIC) 11-3 in five innings.

Abby Russell put the Mustangs on the board with an RBI triple, and Jillian Noel followed in the next at-bat with a two-run home run for a 3-0 lead early. Three RBI doubles by Russell, Molly Bull, and Paige Ahrendt extended the lead to 7-0 in the third inning.

The Marauders answered in the fourth inning as Brooke McClure crushed a double to the left-center gap, scoring Francesca Villaneda and Mckenzie Reinhardt for two RBIs. Kaylee Kannegiesser next brought McClure home with an RBI single shot down the right-field line, making the score 7-3.

The Mustangs plated four more runs in the bottom of the fourth, and would hold the Marauders scoreless in the fifth to retain an eight-run lead for the run rule and the 11-3 win in five innings.

Shelby Bloemendaal earned the win for the Mustangs while Nicole Eckhardt was charged with the loss.
