ORLANDO, FL - Three days after sweeping NSIC competition in Virginia, MN, the University of Mary Tennis team (4-0, 3-0 NSIC) showed no signs of jet lag with their first spring break matchup in Orlando on Wednesday. The Marauders won their fourth straight match over Adrian College 5-2 to remain perfect in the new season.
"In spite of the change in temperature and heat, our athletes adjusted to the conditions and played consistent," said head coach Vida Saliendra.
Chloe Chong and
Ilona Freitag were a cohesive unit again in a 6-1 victory in #1 doubles.
Doaa Farouk Mohamed and
Hala Hossam Awad continued to play well together onward to a 6-2 win in #2 doubles.
Emily Needham and
Samantha Purpura pushed through a great battle to win 7-5 in #3 doubles. It was Needham and Purpura's second straight doubles victory together, and the second straight doubles sweep for the Marauders.
Reigning NSIC Tennis Player of the Week
Chloe Chong stayed on top of her game, controlling her #1 singles match with Liv Depies 6-0, 6-1 for the win.
Doaa Farouk Mohamed did not yield a set in #2 singles, defeating Regan Snyder 6-0, 6-0 in an imposing display.
Ilona Freitag was strong in victory in #3 singles, taking down Brooke Posey 6-0, 6-1.
Hala Hossam Awad continued her impressive collegiate start with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Ava Hovey in #4 singles.
Samantha Purpura put forth a rousing effort in #5 singles, taking the first set 6-4, but ultimately falling in the next two 4-6, 0-1.
The Marauders forfeited the #6 singles match.
