BISMARCK, ND – Career-high scoring efforts by both
Ty Rogers and
Deven Franks led the University of Mary's efforts in the final Saturday home game of the season for the Marauders. Looking to close a gap in the Northern Sun North division standings, a shorthanded UMary squad dropped a 90-71 decision to visiting Bemidji State University.
Entering the night 5
th in the NSIC North, the Marauders hoped to narrow the standings gap between themselves and the 4
th place Beavers. Instead the Beavers took advantage of a UMary lineup missing starting forwards
Lucas Mayer and
Gertautas Urbonavicius, both sidelined with injuries.
Making his second straight start for UMary, Rogers scored a career-best 15 points for the Marauders. The freshman forward scored both inside and out, scoring both outside the arc and on a dunk. Rogers connected on 6-of-10 shots, including a 5-of-7 effort inside the arc. He also hit both free throw attempts, grabbed three rebounds and dished two assists without committing a turnover.
Franks posted 13 points for UMary. Coming off the bench the sophomore guard proved deadly accurate. Franks hit all three of his treys and went 5-of-6 from the floor overall. He also added two rebounds and an assist.
Also making his first start for UMary was
Veljko Radakovic. The junior forward delivered a career-best seven assists, which tied for the game high. He added six points on 3-of-5 shooting and had four assists.
Zyon Smith added nine points.
Two other freshmen also made strong contributions.
Jeremiah Jones delivered in several categories with five points, four rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Xavier Lewis led the Marauders with seven rebounds and two blocks.
John Sutherland had a game-high 26 points for Bemidji State and added seven rebounds and seven assists. Mohamed Kone posted 22 points and eight boards.
The Marauders (11-10 overall, 7-11 NSIC) shot a solid 48.3% from the floor, including a 10-for-19 mark on treys. UMary also played BSU even on the boards with each team hauling in 29. The Beavers (16-8, 11-7) connected on 54.7% of its shots and was 11-for-29 behind the arc.
Next up for the Marauders is a pair of road games with a visit to the University of Minnesota Duluth on Friday, February 10, before a stop at St. Cloud State University on Saturday, February 11.
The Marauders last home game is scheduled for Thursday, February 16, against Northern State.
