Marauders end Washburn Invite dropping two to Bearcats, Tigers

TOPEKA, KS - The University of Mary Softball team finished their stay at the Washburn Invite against two more tough teams. The Marauders dropped both games Sunday 11-3 to Northwest Missouri State and 9-0 to Fort Hays State.

GAME ONE
Janelle Bergmann and Erin Murphy cracked two hits a piece in UMary's (2-9) 11-3 loss to Northwest Missouri State (8-5).

Skylar Pieper jumpstarted a 9-run first inning with an RBI double for the Bearcats, followed by back-to-back homers from Aubrey Griffith and Olivia Daugherty.

Ariana Retuta plated the Marauders first run of the game in the third inning, driving in Mckenzie Reinhardt on an RBI single up the middle. Madison Wszolek later laced an RBI double to the gap in right-center in the fourth.

Freshman Francesca Villaneda later drove home the Marauders third and final run of the game on a sacrifice fly to right in the fifth.

The Bearcats would end the game 11-3 with an eight-run rule in the fifth inning. Raven DeFrain earned the win through four complete innings of work.

Hannah Chambers was tagged with the loss. Jamison Ness came in relief to limit the Bearcats damage at the plate.

GAME TWO
Loren Beggs homered and drove home five runs to highlight Fort Hays State's 9-0 win over UMary. Beggs' home run sparked a 7-run second inning to pace the Tigers (8-5) offensively in the five-inning contest.

Savannah Egger pitched a complete-game shutout to earn the win. Egger struck out two and walked a pair of Marauders.

Hannah Chambers was tagged with her second loss on the day. Nicole Eckhardt limited the damage in relief. Both pitchers held the Tigers to only five base hits in the contest, but the Marauders committed three errors in the field.

Ariana Retuta and Brooke De Jonge collected the lone Marauders base hits.
