MOORHEAD, MN - The regular season almost concluded with an epic comeback win for the University of Mary Women's Basketball team.
Megan Zander finished an outstanding weekend with 26 points and
Megan Voit was also lethal shooting for 16 as the Marauders (13-12, 12-10 NSIC) came up short to MSU Moorhead (14-12, 11-11 NSIC) 76-72 on Saturday.
With the final regular season game in the books, the first round of the NSIC Postseason is now set with a stop in Bismarck. The Marauders will host as the fourth seed in the north, taking on Wayne State College (11-15, 7-15 NSIC), the fifth seed from the south. The first-round NSIC playoff matchup is set for Wednesday, February 22 at 6 pm.
The early going was all Dragons as they hit 10-12 (83.3%) shots to jump out to an early 26-15 lead at the end of the first quarter. MSUM would not let up in the second quarter, starting off with a 6-0 run.
MSUM entered halftime with a commanding lead of 48-27. UMary shot 31.3% in the first half but
Megan Zander began to heat up in the second quarter, finishing the first half with 11 points.
Down 21 at the half, the Marauders fired back in the third. Zander led the effort with 11 more points while
Ryleigh Wacha and
Addison Rozell added some big scores to narrow the lead. UMary hit 9-13 shots (69.2%) to create a 59-53 score, turning the tide of the game entering the fourth quarter.
A pair of Zander free throws made it a one-score game early in the final frame, and
Moriku Hakim tied it up 68-68 with a layup and the free throw off a foul with 1:42 to go. Mariah McKeever answered with four straight points and the Dragons narrowly held onto the lead in the final minute of the game, going on to win 76-72.
The spectacular second half raised the Marauders shooting to 42.4% in the game while the Dragons finished at 53.7% from the field. While UMary won the rebounding matchup 33-31, MSUM was still strong inside accounting for 40 points from within the paint.

Megan Zander had another strong game on the final weekend series of the regular season. The senior from Mandan, ND led with 26 points and added four rebounds and three assists.
Megan Voit was another big part of the comeback effort, hitting four treys to add 16 points in the contest. Voit also grabbed three rebounds and two steals.
Moriku Hakim finished with 12 points and five rebounds.
Ryleigh Wacha added nine points and five assists.
