WEST DUNDEE, IL – Striking for a pair of first period goals,
Seth Cushing sparked #6 University of Mary to a 5-1 road win at Northern Illinois University to complete the Midwest College Hockey weekend sweep.

Cushing, who became the Marauders all-time goal scoring leader the previous weekend, finished Saturday with two goals and an assist. He has now scored a goal in seven straight games. Cushing was also the only UMary player with multiple points in the game as 10 skaters had either a goal or an assist.

The Marauders, ranked #6 in American Collegiate Hockey Association Men's Division 1, improves to 14-4-0-0-1 (W-L-OTL-SOW-SOL) overall and 10-1-0-0-1 in Midwest College Hockey play. The Huskies are 1-20-1-1 overall and 0-12-0-0-0 in MCH action.

The Huskies jumped out to an early lead on a Tommy Colwell goal just 3:40 into the contest.

The Marauders tied the game while skating shorthanded. After Cushing missed on a pair of point blank opportunities in the crease, including an end to end breakaway, the Marauders all-time leading goal scorer converted on his third chance with a wrister from just inside the bottom of the right circle at 9:13.

Nick Bradshaw broke the tie late in the first period when he scored a goal for the second straight night. With the Marauders on a 3-on-2 rush that started in their defensive zone, the puck barely touched his stick as Bradshaw rifled home a shot from just inside the top of the right circle off a feed from
Luke Schleusner.

UMary scored one more time before intermission. After applying heavy pressure on the Huskies goal, Cushing slammed home a pass from
Isaiah Thomas with a one-timer from the dot in the right circle to send the Marauders into the first break with a 3-1 lead.

The Marauders tacked on single goals in each of the final two periods.
Garrett Freeman tallied in the second.
Teddy Lillico tapped home the Marauders final goal of the weekend with just eight seconds in the game.

In his second collegiate start,
Cameron Milewski stopped 17 of the 18 shots he faced in the game. Caleb Cross finished with 48 saves for the Huskies.

The Marauders close out the 2023 calendar year with a visit to #2 Minot State University on Wednesday, December 13. Game time is 7:30 pm.
