EDMOND, OK – Taking on one of the nation's top programs, #19 University of Mary held the shot chart advantage but couldn't solve #3 University of Central Oklahoma goaltender Doug Wakelyn in a 3-0 Marauders loss to the Bronchos.
The Marauders (5-2-0-0-1 W-L-OTL-SOW-SOL) held a 43-38 edge in shots over the Bronchos (9-0), including a 33-22 advantage in the final two periods.
The Bronchos stunned the Marauders with a goal by Cash Regan just 55 seconds into the game. Sam Sykes produced a power play goal at 7:03. Following a scoreless second period, Sykes salted away the UCO win with his second goal of the night at 12:20 of the third period.
Kyle Hayden had a big night for UMary, making 35 saves in the game. Wakelyn finished with 43.
The Marauders were unable to click on their seven power play opportunities. UCO was 1-for-3 with the extra skater.
This was the first meeting between the two American Collegiate Hockey Association Men's Division 1 nationally-ranked teams. The weekend series between UMary and UCO wraps up Saturday, October 28. Face off is slated for 7:05 pm.
