Marauders fall on road to Bulldogs

DULUTH, MN – Facing one of the nation's top defenses on the road, the University of Mary was unable to find its footing in a 46-0 loss at the University of Minnesota Duluth.
 
Kevin Butler set a season-high for the Marauders in tackles, making 12 total stops in the game. The UMary defensive back finished with eight solo tackles and also broke up a pass.
 
Jakob Petry and Grant Collins split the Marauders three tackles for loss with 1.5 apiece. Petry also had six tackles (four solo) and Collins added three. Abram Jopp added five solo tackles.
 
With four starters missing on the offensive line plus others out throughout the lineup, the Marauders fell behind 32-0 at intermission as the Bulldogs scored on each of their possessions.
 
UMary forced UMD to punt on its first possession of the second half but were unable to take advantage against a Bulldogs team that scored five passing touchdowns and one on the ground.
 
Sofian Massoud was again accurate in throwing the ball for UMary, completing 10-of-13 passes for 64 yards.
 
Mujeeb Rufai was the Marauders (0-7 overall/NSIC) primary target. Among the nation's leaders in receptions, Rufai caught four passes for 39 yards. Andrew Trandahl led UMary in catches with five.
 
Kyle Walljasper completed 8-of-12 passes for 96 yards and three touchdowns to lead UMD (6-1, 5-1). Ben Vallafskey ran for 117 yards.
 
The Marauders open a three-game home stand on Saturday, October 21, when UMary hosts #16 Davenport University in a non-conference contest. Game time is 12 noon at the MDU Resources Community Bowl.
