Luke Schleusner and
Tanner Eskro both scored a pair of goals for #21 University of Mary to lead the Marauders to a 5-2 victory over visiting #23 Missouri State University. In the first ever matchup between the two nationally ranked teams, the Marauders scored early in each of the first two periods to take an insurmountable lead over the Ice Bears.
Just 2:05 into the game, Schleusner used an assist from
Riley Scanlon to score his first goal with the Marauders.
Eskro doubled the Marauders advantage to 2-0 only 2:28 into the second.
Following a power play goal by Missouri State's Hunter Bulger midway through the second, the Marauders tallied a pair of goals just 21 seconds apart just before intermission to take a 4-1 lead.
Schleusner found the next for a second time with 63 seconds left in the middle stanza. Eskro then followed with his second of the night at 19:18.
Nick Bradshaw pushed the game out of reach at 14:21 of the third, scoring his first career goal for the Marauders.
Bulger posted a late goal to make the final margin three.
Conan Hayton was strong in net for the Marauders, making 21 saves as UMary limited the Ice Bears to just 23 shots. Austin Gilbert stopped 27 of the 32 shots he faced.
In addition to the multi-goal games by Eskro and Schleusner,
Isaiah Thomas and
Seth Cushing both had a pair of helpers for the Marauders.
The Marauders and the Ice Bears wrap up their weekend series with a 5 pm face off on Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Starion Sports Complex Schwan Cadillac Rink.
