MOORHEAD, MN - Friday night marked a great night of racing for the University of Mary Swimming team (5-1). In a three-team, 13-event meet hosted by Concordia College (MN), the Marauders claimed 10 event titles out of the 11 they competed in. UMary picked up two meet victories defeating the Cobbers 152-61, and the Jimmies of the University of Jamestown by a 146-62 margin.
"Overall, it was a great night for the team," said Head Coach
Ryan Evans. "Going into the meet, we weren't concerned about the times. Rather, I just wanted them to focus on racing. They did a great job of this, and they raced tough the whole meet."
The Marauders started the event victorious in the 200 yard medley relay with the team of
Michaela Desmond,
Rylie Webb,
Jordn Wolsky, and
Breena DeLegge racing to a 1:56.38 finish. Just as they started, the Marauders bookended the event with another relay victory in the 200 yard freestyle relay with DeLegge, Wolsky,
Teresa Cavanaugh, and Desmond (1:43.76).
Victoria Murillo had another great meet winning three individual events in the 200 yard freestyle (1:57.16), 100 yard freestyle (54.58), and the 200 yard breaststroke (2:27.00).
Along with their relay victories,
Breena DeLegge,
Jordn Wolsky, and
Michaela Desmond each had an individual victory for the Marauders. DeLegge won the 50 yard freestyle in 25.38. Wolsky claimed the 400 Yard IM in 4:58.05. Desmond tallied a win in the 500 yard freestyle with a time of 5:39.91.
Korie Riely added a win in the longest event of the evening, the 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 11:37.84.
Mariapocs Ruiz Martinez made it a perfect ten for the Marauders with her win in the 200 yard butterfly.
"I am looking forward to seeing this momentum carry into tomorrow's pentathlon," said Coach Evans.
OTHER TOP FINISHES
Mikayla Brackin finished second in the 400 yard IM (5:15.23), and in the 200 yard butterfly (2:29.88).
Teresa Cavanaugh finished second in the 200 yard backstroke (2:18.21) and third in the 200 yard freestyle (2:07.05).
Allie Elliott finished second in the 200 yard freestyle (2:06.93), and third in the 100 yard freestyle (59.35).
Rylie Webb finished second in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:40.30).
Sarah Towey finished second in the 1000 yard freestyle (12:04.32).
Madi Yonke finished second in the 50 yard freestyle (25.81).
UP NEXT
Following Friday's dominating performance, the Marauders finally return home to the BSC Aquatic & Wellness Center for a pentathlon meet with Northern State University. It will be the Marauders final home meet of the 2022-23 season and final meet before preparation for the NSIC Tournament Feb. 8-11 in Fargo, ND.
The UMary Swimming program will honor two graduating seniors,
Breena DeLegge and
Rylie Webb, for Senior Day just before the start of the meet.
