WAYNE, NE – Providing a spark off the bench for the University of Mary,
Jeremiah Jones came up just one rebound short of a double double as the freshman led the Marauders efforts in a 72-52 loss at Wayne State College.
One of the Northern Sun leaders in rebounds, steals and assists in his first year of college basketball, Jones led the Marauders with 10 points and nine rebounds. He owns two of UMary's four double doubles this season.
Another freshman,
Gunner Swanson, also had a strong performance off the bench. In his second season at UMary after redshirting last season, the Bismarck, ND, native scored a career-high nine points by sinking 3-of-5 shots from behind the arc.
The Marauders (8-8 overall, 4-8 NSIC) fell behind early and were unable to catch up against the Wildcats (12-6, 7-5) as both teams struggled to find offensive efficiency. Wayne State connected on just 42.4% of its shots and was just 8-for-24 from three. UMary shot 36.1% from the floor and was 5-of-18 on treys. Both teams accumulated 39 rebounds.
Limited to just six shots,
Kam Warrens scored eight points, had five rebounds, and added three assists and two blocks.
Gertautas Urbonavicius paired seven boards and six points. Overall nine Marauders appeared in the scoring column.
Jordan Janssen had 20 points and nine rebounds for Wayne State. Nate Mohr added 17.
UMary now returns home to host Upper Iowa University at 5:30 pm on Friday, January 20, and Winona State University at 3:30 pm on Saturday, January 21.
