ST. PAUL, MN – Taking on their most difficult task of the season, the University of Mary volleyball team kept 3rd ranked Concordia-St. Paul within their sights the first two sets before an impressive Golden Bears attack overwhelmed the Marauders in a 3-0 (25-17, 25-17, 25-11) sweep for the home team.
Down early, an ace by
McKenna Kirkpatrick pulled the Marauders even with the Golden Bears 10-10. Concordia-St. Paul then used a 9-1 run to seize control of the set.
In set two, it was an ace by
Kaia Sueker that pulled UMary even at 13-13. CSP responded with six straight points to gain separation.
The Golden Bears (13-2, 6-1 NSIC) scored 15 of the last 19 points in the third set to capture the match.
Sueker had a tremendous night for UMary. The sophomore libero accounted for 15 of the Marauders 28 digs on the night, an average of 5.0 per set. She also had two aces without an error and two assists.
Nehkyah Ellis had a team-leading six kills and added two aces. Emily Torberg,
Maddie Cooper,
Alexandria Harper and
Reyna Isenbart each had four kills.
Jasmine Mulvihill was unstoppable for CSP. She posted 14 kills on 20 swings and didn't commit an attack error, finishing with a hitting percentage of .700. For the night CSP hit .453 while UMary checked in at .065.
The Marauders (2-13, 1-6 NSIC) wrap up the weekend with a match at Minnesota State University on Saturday, October 1. Game time is 2 pm.
