BEMIDJI, MN - The University of Mary volleyball team's weekend road trip began in a packed gym at Bemidji State University. The home court advantage proved strong for BSU as the Beavers ran with a sweep (25-13, 25-12, 25-16) over the visiting Marauders .
UMary falls to 1-10 (0-3 NSIC) while Bemidji State improves to 2-9 with their first match victory in the NSIC.
Set 1 opened with UMary and Bemidji State evenly deadlocked before the Beavers pulled away with the set. The second timeout taken marked a 16-11 lead for the Beavers on the way to a 25-13 opening set win.
Momentum stayed with the Beavers heading into set 2. Bemidji State possessed a 14-6 lead over UMary at the first timeout mark. Behind the strong attack led by Hallie Mertz, the Beavers would also take definitive possession of the second set 25-12.
During set 3, the Marauders would begin to close the gap after Bemidji State started off hot again 7-16. The comeback efforts would be too late as the Beavers completed the sweep in set 3 by a score of 25-16. Â

Maddie Cooper had another efficient night leading the attack for the Marauders with 6 kills and a hitting percentage of .500. Cooper and
Reyna Isenbart would also possess one block each on the Marauders defensive side.
Freshman
Maddy Freed dished out a team high 12 assists to aid the Marauders offensively.
Nehkyah Ellis added 5 kills for the Marauders while gathering up 6 digs in the defeat.
Kaia Sueker gained 8 more digs to her impressive season total while adding an ace serve.
UP NEXT
Still in search for their first conference win this season, the Marauders are looking to quickly bounce back as they're back on the road tomorrow for a 2 pm matchup with the University of Minnesota Crookston Golden Eagles. The Marauders are 6-3 in the past 9 matchups with the Golden Eagles and are 7-10 historically.
