SIOUX FALLS, SD – The University of Mary tennis team's season came to an end as UMary was defeated 4-2 by Minnesota State University – Mankato in the opening round of the NSIC Championships.
"We put up a good effort but fell short. It was a good season for us as we finished with a winning season and earned a regional ranking," said head coach
Vida Saliendra.
The Marauders earned a point doubles competition after winning two of their three matches.
Chloe Chong and
Ilona Freitag lost 6-3 in number one doubles.
Doaa Farouk Mohamed and
Emily Needham earned a 6-3 win in number two doubles.
Callie McDonald and
Heidi Jacobson won in number three doubles, 6-4.
Chong was defeated 6-2, 6-2 by Tristen Bryant-Otake in number one singles.
Freitag did not finish her matchup against Avery Stilwell due to the competition already being decided. Freitag lost the first set 6-3 before being tied at 6-6 in the second set when the match was stopped.
Mohamed earned UMary's only singles point as he defeated Elizabeth Felderman 6-2, 6-3 in number three singles.
In number four singles, Needham lost 6-3, 6-3 to Hana Minisy.
Jacobson fell in number five singles to Taylor Julsrud 6-1, 6-4.
McDonald concluded the match for the Marauders as she lost a close contest to Brynn Psooy 7-6, 6-2.
This concludes UMary's 2022 season. The Marauders finished the season with a 9-7 overall record while going 8-3 in the NSIC.
