Tough first inning proves costly as Marauders fall 7-3 to the Beavers

MINOT, ND – A tough first inning was the deciding factor in the University of Mary softball team's (0-5) 7-3 defeat to Minot State University (8-2).

MSU jumped out to a 7-0 lead at the end of the first inning. Nichole Eckhardt would come on in relief and shut down the Beavers offense for six innings.

Haley Berube got UMary on the board in the top of the second inning, hitting the first home run of the season for the Marauders to center field.

In the top of the fifth inning, Madison Wszolek singled up the middle to drive in Berube. Brooke De Jonge then brought home Wszolek after hitting a single to center, cutting MSU's lead to 7-3. UMary's offense failed to score in the sixth and seventh, securing a Beavers win.
