MANDAN, ND – Alex Flicek posted a hat trick and Quinn Ackerman registered a shutout as top-ranked University of Mary opened the 2022 Dakota Cup with a 4-0 victory over the University of Jamestown. It was the 10^th straight win for UMary as the Marauders also opened their final home stand of the season.
 
The Marauders, the defending American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Men's Division 2 champions and the top-ranked team in both the nation and the West region, improved their record to 28-4-1-2 this season.
 
Flicek scored the game's opening goal at 8:51 of the first period, using helpers from Cyril Nagurski and Seth Cushing. Derek Dropik stunned the Jimmies just 48 seconds later as he found the net to double the UMary lead to 2-0. Noah Scordato and Drew Lenertz provided the assists.
 
Flicek scored the lone goal of each of the nest two periods. He tallied at 7:17 of the second with help from Connor Hanson and Tanner Eskro. UMary's leading scorer wrapped up the night with his 19^th goal of the season at 11:16 of the third period with Nagurski picking up his second assist of the game and Zach Garrett earning his first assist.
 
Ackerman stopped all 21 shots taken by the Jimmies to register his second shutout of the season. He also boosted his record to 3-0.
 
UMary held a commanding 40-21 edge in shots for the night. The two teams combined for just five penalties for 10 minutes, with UMary cited twice for four.
 
In the first Dakota Cup game of the day, the #11 Dakota College at Bottineau Lumberjacks upended the Williston State College Tetons 6-1.
 
The Dakota Cup schedule opens on Saturday, February 12, with Jamestown facing Dakota College at 4 pm.
 
The Marauders celebrate Senior Night against Williston State on Saturday at 7 pm.
 
The Dakota Cup – and the Marauders home schedule – concludes on Sunday, February 13. The Jimmies play the Tetons at 11 am before the Marauders and Lumberjacks face off at 2 pm. All games are played at the Starion Sports Complex Schwan Cadillac Rink.
