Three Marauders score Double Digits in 78-64 Loss to Golden Eagles

CROOKSTON, MN - The University of Mary Women's Basketball team closed out the 2022 half of their season on the road at the University of Minnesota Crookston Saturday afternoon. The Golden Eagles offense continued their impressive stretch with nearly six players scoring double digits in a 78-64 victory over the Marauders. Three Marauders hit double digits for the second straight day in Megan Zander, Megan Voit, and Moriku Hakim in what would be the third win in a row for Crookston. 

UMary (6-5, 5-3 NSIC) hung around with UMC (6-8, 5-3 NSIC) early in the first quarter trailing 15-20. The Golden Eagles shot 46.9% from the field and hit six of 16 treys in the first half to build a 42-33 lead at the half. 

The Marauders battled hard in the second half although their shooting would cool off as they hit only nine of 31 shots. UMC would shoot 44.3% from the field and go on to win 78-64. 

Top-five conference scorer Emma Miller led the game with 16 points as four other Golden Eagles scored in double digits to highlight a solid team effort offensively. UMC also out-rebounded UMary 48-32. 

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

Megan Zander once again led the Marauders scoring with 15 points and was perfect from the free throw line. The senior from Mandan, ND also grabbed seven rebounds. 

Megan Voit had another solid game shooting with three treys and 13 total points. The senior from Sauk Rapids, MN also had six rebounds, two assists, and a steal.

Moriku Hakim followed her stellar Friday game with 11 points, her third straight game scoring in double digits. The sophomore from Fargo, ND also grabbed five rebounds and two steals. 

Ryleigh Wacha scored six points, and also distributed five boards and four assists. The sophomore from Fargo, ND was also a defensive force with two blocks and two steals. 

Addison Rozell added eight points along with two steals and a block.

UP NEXT

The UMary Women's Basketball team look to start the new year fresh with a return home next weekend. The first home series in a month, the Marauders play host to Southwest Minnesota State University (9-4, 6-2 NSIC) Friday at 5:30 pm, followed by a 3:30 matchup with the University of Sioux Falls (4-9, 1-6 NSIC) on Saturday afternoon.
