Hayden posts season-high 41 saves as #1 Marauders fall 3-1 at #1 Beavers

MINOT, ND – Kyle Hayden stopped a season-high 41 shots for the University of Mary but the reigning Player of the Year suffered his first loss this season in a meeting between the top-ranked teams in the top two divisions of the American Collegiate Hockey Association. Minot State University, ranked 1st in ACHA Men's Division 1, scored a solo goal in the second and tagged on two more in the third to down the visiting Marauders 3-1.

Following a scoreless first period that witnessed UMary, the two-time defending national champion and #1 team in ACHA Men's Division 2, and Minot State combine for 13 shots, the Beavers stepped up the pace in the second.

Launching 23 shots at Hayden in the middle period, the Beavers broke into the scoring column on a Joey Moffatt goal at 8:17 after the Marauders were unable to clear a loose puck from their defensive zone.

After Carter Barley scored 84 seconds into the third period to double the Minot State lead, Moffatt scored a power play goal for his second counter of the game at 11:32.

The Marauders kept digging and eventually scored a power play goal of their own when Seth Cushing tallied for the ninth time this season with 3:59 to play.

Minot State (13-0) held a 44-18 edge in shots over UMary (17-3-1). Jake Anthony finished with 17 saves for the Beavers.

UMary finished 1-for-4 on the power play and committed five penalties for 10 minutes. Minot State converted one of three power play opportunities and were whistled six times for 12 penalty minutes.

The venue now changes to Mandan, ND, on Saturday, December 3, for the annual Teddy Bear Toss game. The puck drops at 7 pm at the Starion Sports Complex Schwan Cadillac Rink to wrap up the home and home series between the Marauders and the Beavers.
