Exciting first week for Evans capped by big Marauders win over Dragons

BISMARCK ND – The University of Mary swim team welcomed a new face to the program this week with the addition of head coach Ryan Evans. The Marauders responded to the addition with a big win over MSU Moorhead on Saturday, surpassing the Dragons 119-79.

"I couldn't have asked for a better way to end my first week as head coach," said Evans. "Every single scholar-athlete contributed to today's win. I am very proud of their effort and attitude throughout the entire meet.

"Seeing them race today gives us a good idea of things we did well and the areas we need to work on over the next two weeks before the Augustana Invitational. I am looking forward to continuing to improve in Sioux Falls and for the rest of the season."

Once again big performances by Breena DeLegge and Victoria Murillo paced the Marauders efforts in their fourth meet of the season.

In her first individual event, DeLegge won the 50 yard free by 1.45 seconds with a mark of 24.92. The senior later claimed the 100 yard free with a time of 54.88 seconds. Close behind in season was Michaela Desmond in 56.43.

The reigning NSIC Swimmer of the Week, Murillo rolled to a win in the 200 yard free as her time of 1:55.35 was more than eight seconds faster than the next finisher. The senior was even more impressive in her other event, winning the 500 free by over 27 seconds with a clocking of 5:12.48.

Murillo and DeLegge combined forces with Desmond and Jordn Wolsky to close the day with a win in the 200 yard free relay as they were timed in 1:40.46.

Wolsky was the Marauders other individual winner, claiming the 100 yard butterfly title in 1:01.52.

The Marauders next compete at Augustana Invite on November 17-19.
