UMary begins four-game road trip at WSU, UIU

BISMARCK, ND - The University of Mary women's basketball team (10-12, 4-9 Northern Sun) begins a four-game road trip as they travel to Winona, MN, to compete against Winona State University on Friday, January 28, at 5:30 pm. UMary then heads to Fayette, IA, to take on Upper Iowa University on Saturday, January 29, at 3:30 pm. The Marauders are 13th in the NSIC and seventh in the NSIC North.

Last Time Out
The Marauders were defeated in both of their home games last weekend. The Marauders fell 79-58 to Concordia University, St. Paul and 74-60 to Minnesota State University – Mankato.

Lexie Schneider scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds against CSP. Ryleigh Wacha posted a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds against MSU.

About The Opposition
Winona State University is 9-9 overall and 6-8 in the Northern Sun. WSU is 11th in the NSIC and sixth in the NSIC South. Senior forward Taylor Hustad leads the Warriors in scoring and rebounding, averaging 12.8 ppg and 7.2 rpg. Leading CSP in assists is senior guard Emily Kieck, who averages 3.8 assists per game.

Upper Iowa University has a record of 4-14 overall and 1-11 in the Northern Sun. UIU sits in 15th place in the NSIC and eighth in the NSIC South. The Peacocks leading scorer is sophomore guard
Lydia Haack, who averages 13 ppg. Haack also leads the team in assists with 3.9 assists per game. Sophomore guard Jessica Musgrave leads the team in rebounding with 7.1 rebounds per game.

Stats To Watch
Lexie Schneider leads UMary in scoring, averaging 12.7 ppg. She also leads UMary in rebounding with 8.0 rpg. She's third in the NSIC in rebounding, 20th in blocks (0.6 bpg) and 21st in scoring.

Macy Williams leads the Marauders in assists with 70 total and is averaging 9.2 ppg. Williams is 13th in the NSIC in assists and 12th in assist to turnover ratio.

Megan Voit is the team leader in three-pointers made with a total of 61 and is third on the team in scoring, averaging 10.9 ppg. She is shooting .374 from behind the arc. She is first in the NSIC three-pointers made per game and in three-point field goal percentage.

Megan Zander is second on the team in scoring with 11.3 ppg while averaging 5.3 rpg. She's shooting .450 from three on 27-of-60 shooting. She's 16th in the NSIC in three-pointers made per game (1.5).

Ryleigh Wacha averages 7.4 ppg and 5.3 rpg. Wacha is 21st in the NSIC in blocks (0.5 bpg).

Macy Williams Assists Record
Williams is third in all-time assists at UMary with 432. Williams needs seven more assists to become second all-time as she trails Renae Amundson (438).

Coaches
Head coach Rick Neumann is fourth all-time in coaching wins at UMary with 143. In his ninth season, he has a record of 143-130`. Hall of Fame coach Roger Haug is the Marauders all-time leader in wins (234), followed by Fred Fridley (170), Cal Collins (150) and Neumann (143).

UMary brought in two assistant coaches Brooke LeMar and Chloe Wanink for the 2020-21 season. LeMar was a two-time all-conference after spending her collegiate career at NCAA Division I North Dakota State University. She then went on to play professionally in several countries including Denmark, Germany, Australia and Sweden. LeMar worked as the Director of Player Development at the California Baptist University.

Wanink was a four-year all-conference performer at NCAA Division I Wofford University. She was a three-year captain at Wofford and led the Southern Conference in scoring her junior season averaging 21 points per game. She was named the 2019-20 SoCon Preseason Player of the Year and was named to the Nancy Lieberman Point Guard watchlist.

Returners
Notable returners to the Marauders include Macy Williams, Lexie Schneider and Megan Voit. Schneider led the NSIC in rebounding and was second on the team in scoring with 12.5 ppg.
Voit led the team in total three-pointers made with 22 while averaging 7.9 ppg.

Williams was first in the NSIC in assists with 75. Williams ranks 7th all-time for the University of Mary in assists.

Other returners include senior Carly Kottsick, juniors Reese Wishart and Mady Shafer, sophomores Zoe Velde, Lakyn Darras, Cadee Ryckman and Hallie Schweitzer.

New Faces
The Marauders add the University of North Dakota transfer Megan Zander, who averaged 8.8 ppg and 5.9 rpg last season.

UMary brings in five freshmen, who will look to make an immediate impact for the Marauders. Those five include Addison Rozell, Julia Fitterer, Ryleigh Wacha, Moriku Hakim and Ellie Hasz.
