BISMARCK, ND –
Jacob Jackson more than held his own on a night the University of Mary men's basketball team faced off against a nationally-ranked team for the second time this season. In his first season with the Marauders, the junior guard scored a career-high 17 points and posted his third double double in an 80-59 UMary home loss to #23 Augustana University.
Making his fifth straight start after coming off the bench to start the season, Jackson snared 10 rebounds to go with his 17 points to lead the Marauders in both categories. The Sacramento, CA, native hit two of the Marauders four treys in the game and went 5-of-6 at the free throw line. Jackson also led all players with three steals.
Kai Hunstberry added 15 points on the night behind a perfect effort at the line as he made all six of his free throws. As a team the Marauders had a strong night at the line, making 17-of-22 free throws. Augie was 9-of-10.
Deven Franks and
Matthew Johnson both added seven points for UMary.
Playing their only game of the weekend against UMary after Augie's game at Minot State was cancelled, the Vikings came out on fire. Augie scored 18 of the first 21 points in the game and carried a 48-29 lead into intermission. The Vikings hit on 61% of their shots in the first half, including a 7-for-12 effort behind the line.
The Marauders (5-11 overall, 4-7 Northern Sun) played the second half close to even as the Vikings (13-2, 7-2) outscored UMary 32-30.
Isaac Fink scored 23 points to pace the Vikings attack. He hit 5-of-8 shots behind the arc and had nine rebounds. Adam Dykman hit four 3s and scored 20.
UMary continues their four-game home stand next weekend with visits from Concordia-St. Paul on Friday, January 21, and Minnesota State University on January 22. Next weekend is also Alumni Weekend for Marauders basketball.
