UMary swimming opens season against NSU, CSP

ABERDEEN, SD – The University of Mary swimming and diving team is eager to get back in the water as they open their 2021-22 season in Aberdeen, SD, to take on Northern State and Concordia University, St. Paul at 3 pm.

Last Season
Last season the Marauders finished fourth in the Northern Sun after going 3-1 in the shortened regular season due to COVID-19. UMary had two swimmers earn NCAA All-American honors for the first time in Andrea Lee and Abbey Zajdzinski.

About The Opposition
Northern State University finished 6th in the NSIC Championships last season. The Wolves top returning swimmers include Lauren Forsyth and Maddie Gonzales. Gonzales finished seventh in the 200 back and tenth in the 100 back at the NSIC Championships. Forsyth took home a fifth-place finish in the 200 fly and took seventh in the 100 fly. NSU's swimmer to watch is freshman Haley Osborne.

Concordia University, St. Paul's swimming and diving program enter their second season as the Golden Bears finished 9th in the NSIC last year. CSP's top returner is Sydney Flemming who earned the Golden Bears their only points in the NSIC Championships with a 13th place finish in the 200 butterfly. CSP's swimmer to watch is freshman Farida Maher.

Returners
Coming off an All-American season, UMary swimmer Andrea Lee was named the Marauders 2021-22 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Swimmer to Watch. Lee earned All-American Honors in the 1650 free at NCAA Championship after finishing 16th. Lee finished second in the 200 free, 500 free, 1000 free and the 1650 free at the NSIC Championships.

Victoria Murillo looks to continue her dominance at the NSIC Championships as she won the 200 and 500 free last season. The Cancun native qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 200 free, 500 free and 1000 free.

Breena DeLegge returns after winning the 100 free in the NSIC Championships. DeLegge qualified for the 2019 NCAA Championships in the 50 and 100 free.

Rylie Webb earned NSIC all-conference honors last season after finishing third in the 100 IM.

New Faces
The Marauders will welcome nine freshmen to the team. They are Ellie Wilson, Marina Conde Revuelto, Mariapocs Ruiz Martinez, Megan Miller, Camille Merimee, Breanna Lund, Rachel Bailey, Elle Holland and Emma Bradley.
