Moore goal not enough as #1 Marauders fall 2-1 at #18 Argos

GREAT FALLS, MT – Kyler Moore provided the top-ranked University of Mary an early lead but the Marauders were unable to build on their advantage in UMary's final regular season game of the season. The visiting Marauders held a massive edge in shots but it was homestanding and 18th ranked University of Providence that pulled out a 2-1 win.

Moore scored his 15th goal of the season at 4:30 of the first period, taking advantage of an assist from Jaren Hugelen. Despite a 23-3 disparity in shots favoring the Marauders in the opening period, UMary was unable extend its lead.

Providence started finding its skates in the second period and knotted the game 1-1 at 3:44 on a Will Wright power play goal, as the edge in shots tightened to 14-9 in the stanza, still in favor of the Marauders.

With both teams taking 12 shots in the third, it was only the Argos that found the net when Taylor McCall scored an unassisted goal at 11:22.

The Marauders finished the game with a 49-24 edge in shots.

Sharing duties in net for the Argos, Tristan Lewis played the first half of the game and posted 26 saves in 27 shots. Connor Olson closed out the contest and stopped all 22 shots he faced.

Kyle Hayden stopped 22 shots for the Marauders.

This was the Marauders first loss to the Argos. UMary had won the first six meetings between the two teams this season.

The Marauders enter the postseason with a record of 33-4-6-1 (W-L-T-OTL) on the season. It was only UMary's second loss this season to an ACHA D2 team.

Champion season now starts for the Marauders. The final ACHA D2 poll will be released this upcoming week and will determine the 16 teams who will complete for the national championships on April 15-20, hosted by the University of Mary and the communities of Bismarck and Mandan.
