MANDAN, ND – The top-ranked University of Mary hockey team scorched #13 University of Jamestown 11-1 to complete a weekend sweep of the Jimmies. Nine Marauders scored in the game – including two goal each by
Andrew Huber and
Jaren Hugelen – as UMary set a season-high for goals.
Defenseman
Marshall Tschida set the pace for the Marauders attack with one goal and four helpers. He reached 100 career assists during the game.
The Marauders blew the game open in the first period, scoring four times. After
Tanner Eskro opened the scoring just 2:15 into the game, Tschida let the floodgates soon after.
In the span of 2:19, the Marauders scored a trio of goals. Tschida scored an unassisted goal at 11:58 and
Derek Dropik and
Johnny Witzke soon followed, with the Witzke goal coming on a power play.
The Jimmies spoiled the Marauders run of goals when Joshua Hoffman found the net 44 seconds into the second period.
Andrew Huber then stepped forward for the Marauders. Honored on Senior Day along with
Alexander Horner just prior to the start of the second period, Huber followed with a pair of goals – the second at 5:14 – to regain the Marauders momentum and push the UMary advantage to 6-1. Hugelen added a power play goal before the end of the second period – the second straight for UMary and third of the game – to give the Marauders a 7-1 advantage entering the final period.
The onslaught continued in the third as
Justin Ohnstad,
Noah Scordato, Hugelen and Lenertz all found the net for UMary.
Several Marauders finished the game with multiple points. Huber added an assist to his two goals,
Seth Cushing assisted on three goals, Witzke posted a goal and two assists, Ohnstad had a goal and an assist and
Kyler Moore had two assists.
The Marauders dominated in all phases of the game, holding a 49-14 edge in shots, scoring on 4-of-7 power play opportunities and limiting the Jimmies to one power play goal on four chances.
In a quiet game for the Marauders netminders,
Kyle Hayden made ten saves in the first two periods before
Quinn Ackermann stopped all three shots he faced in the third.
The Marauders improve to 31-3-6-1 (W-L-T-OTL) on the season.
UMary closes out its regular season home schedule when the Marauders host 18
th ranked University of Providence on Monday, March 22. Face off is set for 7 pm at the Starion Sports Complex Schwan Cadillac Rink.
