JAMESTOWN, ND – The #1 University of Mary hockey team started fast and closed strong in a 5-2 road win over #13 University of Jamestown in American Collegiate Hockey Association Division II men's hockey. The Marauders scored twice in the first and added two more in the third to secure the win. UMary is undefeated against the Jimmies M2 squad this year in five meetings.
UMary improves to 30-3-6-1 (W-L-T-OTL) on the season.
Braeden Zaste led the Marauders attack with a pair of goals, finding the net in the first and third periods.
Johnny Witzke added a goal and three assists and
Andrew Huber posted a goal and an assist.
Zaste provided the Marauders a strong start to the night, scoring just 4:30 into the contest. Witzke sent UMary into the second intermission with a 2-0 lead on the first of two Marauders power play goals.
Both teams found the net in the second. The Marauders extended their lead to 3-0 on a Huber goal before the Jimmies pulled within 3-1 at 13:30 when Braeden Thomas scored.
UMary put the hammer down when Zaste and
Jaren Hugelen scored midway through the third period, with Hugelen's goal coming with a man advantage.
The Marauders specialty units had another good night, scoring twice on three power play opportunities while holding the Jimmies without a goal on all five of the home team's power play chances.
Conan Hayton was strong in net for UMary, making 28 stops in the game.
The Marauders and the Jimmies complete their home-and-away weekend series on Saturday, March 20, when UMary hosts Jamestown at the Starion Sports Complex Schwan Cadillac Rink. Face off is set for 7 pm.
