Marauders celebrate goal against the Jimmies

Second period explosion carries #1 Marauders past #11 Jimmies 9-2

JAMESTOWN, ND – The top-ranked University of Mary hockey team exploded for five goals in the second period and seven straight overall to overwhelm #11 University of Jamestown 9-2. Marshall Tschida, Alex Flicek and Johnny Witzke all scored a pair of goals each for the Marauders and Tanner Eskro delivered four assists.
 
Ranked first in both ACHA M2 polls released this season, the Marauders improve to 27-2-4-1 (W-L-T-OTL). UMary is 4-0 against Jamestown this year. The Jimmies are 11-14-2.
 
Playing their third game in three days, the Marauders showed no signs of weariness. UMary launched 18 shots in the first period alone, just one shy of Jamestown's game total of 19. The Marauders finished the game with 57 shots total.
 
Knotted 1-1 early in the second period, the Marauders ripped off five straight goals. Marshall Tschida gave the Marauders a 2-1 lead at 3:37. Seth Cushing doubled the Marauders lead when he scored his team-leading 27th goal at 9:29 of the period.
 
The goals kept coming for the Marauders in the second. After Andrew Huber found the net at 15:44, Tschida followed with his second goal of the game and the period a scant 48 seconds later. UMary went into the second intermission leading 6-1 after Witzke scored on the power play with 41 seconds left on the clock.
 
UMary struck two more times inside the first five minutes of the third period as both Alex Flicek and Huber found the net. Huber's goal while UMary had an extra skater was the Marauders 7th straight goal and increased their advantage to 8-1.
 
Tschida and Witzke both added an assist on top of their two goals. Flicek delivered a trio of assists along with one goal. Cushing and Justin Ohnstad had a goal and an assist each. Riley Scanlon finished with two assists. Overall eight Marauders produced multiple points in the game.
 
The Marauders next play four games in Missouri, facing some of the best competition in the country. UMary first plays Maryville University on March 4, followed by 3rd ranked Liberty University on March 5, 2nd ranked Lindenwood University on March 6, and 16th ranked Davenport University on March 7.
