Seth Cushing tallied twice,
Johnny Witzke contributed four points and a dominant effort by the #1 University of Mary specialty units led the Marauders past visiting Williston State College 6-1.
The Marauders scored goals on all three of the team's power play opportunities, added a shorthanded goal, and pulled the plug on all five Tetons opportunities with a man advantage as UMary extended its unbeaten streak to 16 games. Ranked first in both the ACHA M2 polls released this season, the win improves the Marauders season record to 26-1-3-1 (W-L-T-OTL) this season.
Cushing cracked the scoreboard first. The Marauders leading goal scorer found the net with 2:43 left on the clock in the first period. Just 87 seconds later Fox Dodds tied the game for Williston State and the two programs went into intermission tied 1-1.
The Marauders quickly jumped back into the lead when Cushing found the back of the net less than three minutes into the second period. His team-leading 26
th goal started a run of five straight for UMary.
Witzke, who posted an assist on the first goal of the game, increased the Marauders lead to 3-1 at 14:29 of the second period as UMary scored on its first power play opportunity of the game.
UMary dominated the third period, scoring a trio of goals.
Zach Garrett scored a shorthanded goal at 5:25 before the Marauders converted two more times on power play opportunities.
Alex Flicek scored at 15:24 and
Derek Dropik followed at 19:00.
Witzke finished the game with one goal and three assists. Cushing posted two goals. Garrett, Flicek and Dropik all had both a goal and an assist.
Kyle Hayden finished the night with 23 saves. Tyler Jansen had 43 saves for the Tetons.
The Marauders next make their second trip of the season to Ames, IA, for a two-game weekend series against #6 Iowa State University on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 26-27. The weekend concludes on the road against the University of Jamestown M2 team on Sunday, Feb. 28
