Huber, Nagurski, Eskro key #1 Marauders onslaught in Sunday win

MANDAN, ND – The top-ranked University of Mary hockey team extended their unbeaten string to 15 games as the Marauders steamrolled the University of North Dakota 10-1 in a matchup of American Collegiate Hockey Association Men's Division 2 squads. Andrew Huber, Cyril Nagurski and Tanner Eskro scored two goals apiece for the Marauders and UMary held a ginormous 78-18 edge in shots over UND.

The Marauders struck both early and late in the first period. Less than two minutes into the game, Andy Huber came off the bench and picked up the puck in at center ice in front of the penalty boxes. The Bismarck, ND, native jetted down the left boards before unleashing a low shot from the left dot that found the net just 1:57 into the game.

Once again it took UMary less than two minutes to double the Marauders lead. Kyler Moore won the draw on the right dot. Seth Cushing hardly hesitated, firing the puck from the top of the slot into the upper reaches of the net for a 2-0 UMary lead at 3:53.

Left alone in front of the goal, Braeden Zaste buried a feed from Andrew Horner from behind the net for the third goal of the game. UMary then stunned UND with a long Cyril Nagurski blast from the point just 27 seconds before intermission, sending the Marauders into the first respite with a 4-0 lead.

Nagurski opened the second period scoring on another long blast from the point at 8:11 to build the UMary lead to an insurmountable 5-0. Huber and Tanner Eskro later added second period goals.

Esko opened the third period scoring with a goal at 3:39. Following UND's lone goal of the game, Horner and Riley Scanlon closed out the Marauders double digit outburst, the third time UMary has posted ten goals in a game this season.

Eskro led the Marauders with four points on two goals and two assists. Two Marauders were right behind with three points as Nagurski had two goals and an assist and Scanlon posted a goal and two assists. Huber added two goals, Zaste and Horner had a goal and an assist each and Marshall Tschida picked up two assists.

Conan Hayton stopped 17 shots in the game and remains undefeated in net for the Marauders. Bryan Bresina posted 68 saves for UND.

The Marauders, ranked first in both the ACHA M2 polls released this season, improves to 25-1-3-1 (W-L-T-OTL) this season. Next up for the Marauders is their final home game of February when Williston State College visits on Feb. 24.
