MANDAN, ND – The second-longest unbeaten streak in program history came to an end tonight for the University of Mary when the Marauders dropped a 4-3 overtime decision to the #10 University of Jamestown's American Collegiate Hockey Association Men's Division 1 team. The loss came after a run of 15 games that included 13 wins and two ties.
 
The defending ACHA M1 national champion and #1-ranked Marauders slip to 18-2-1-2 (W-L-OTL-T) on the season.
 
The 14^th meeting between the ACHA M2 Marauders and the ACHA M1 Jimmies in a series that has consistently favored the visitor, Jamestown now holds slight 7-6-1 advantage. The home team has won just three times in the 14 meetings. The Marauders lone home win came in a 1-0 win earlier this season in the last meeting between the two intrastate foes.
 
The Marauders jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period as UMary pursued what they hoped would be a second straight home win over the Jimmies. Zach Garrett found the net first, knocking home the puck off a shot attempt from Garrett Freeman at 6:52.
 
Shortly after a shot by the Jimmies ringed off the post, Marshall Tschida doubled the UMary lead to 2-0 when the Marauders defenseman scored unassisted on the power play for his eighth goal of the season.
 
The Jimmies pulled within a goal on a Jason Richter counter at 13:10 of the second period. The Marauders regained their two-goal lead at 17:35 when Riley Scanlon scored off assists from Freeman and netminder Conan Hayton.
 
With time running down on the middle period, Marquez Ginger fired home the second goal of the game for the Jimmies with 67 seconds left, cutting the Marauders advantage to 3-2 entering the third period.
 
Jamestown forced overtime when Aiden Cornell scored at 9:10 of the third. Reid Wilson capped the Jimmies rally with a goal just 58 seconds into the extra session.
 
Hayton finished the night with 23 saves for the Marauders. Tyson Brouwer had 32 for the visitors.
 
The Marauders outshot the Jimmies 35-27 for the game after holding a 27-17 edge after the first two periods. Both teams finished 1-for-2 on the power play.
 
UMary's week of facing ACHA M1 opponents continues this weekend with a pair of games against #2 Minot State University. The Marauders and the Beavers first play in Minot, ND, on Friday, Dec. 3. The weekend concludes on Saturday, Dec. 4, when UMary hosts Minot State. Game time is 7 pm at the Starion Sports Complex Schwan Cadillac Rink.
