Cushing solves Tetons netminder for pair of goals in 6-0 Marauders win

WILLISTON, ND – Seth Cushing broke open a scoreless game with a pair of second period goals to lead the University of Mary to a 6-0 win at Williston State College. The Marauders added four more goals in the third to secure their 6th straight win.

Facing the Tetons for the first time this season the Marauders (11-2 overall) dominated the opening period but couldn't find the back of the net. Despite a massive 25-1 edge in shots for UMary, Williston State goalkeeper Frederick Peters kept the game scoreless.

The Marauders finally broke through in the second when Cushing scored just 2:26 into the period, taking advantage of an assist from Alex Flicek. Cushing later doubled the UMary lead to 2-0 when he scored a shorthanded goal.

A flurry of four third period goals in a span of less than five minutes guaranteed the Marauders win. Isaiah Thomas struck first with an unassisted goal at 2:01. Three minutes in a reversal from the opening goal, Flicek scored off an assist from Cushing. Noah Scordato then tallied before Marshall Tschida posted the final goal of the night at 6:52, using helpers from Scordato and Tanner Eskro.

UMary finished the night with a 59-19 edge in shots. Using a combination of three goalkeepers in the shutout win, Kyle Hayden posted one save in the first period, Conan Hayton stopped seven in the second in what was his first appearance of the season, and Quinn Ackerman had 11 saves in the third. Peters had 53 saves for the Tetons.

Several Marauders had multiple points on the night. Cushing finished with two goals and an assist. Thomas Tschida, Flicek, Scordato and Tschida all had a goal and an assist. Tanner Eskro chipped in a pair of assists.

The Marauders return home to host the University of Jamestown M1 squad on Saturday, November 6. Face off is 7 pm at the Starion Sports Complex Schwan Cadillac Rink in Mandan, ND.
