BOTTINEAU, ND – A big night in net by Kyle Hayden and goals by Garrett Freeman and Marshall Tschida carried #1 University of Mary to a 2-2 tie on the road against #9 Dakota College at Bottineau. The draw extended the Marauders unbeaten streak to 15 games, second-longest in program history.
 
The Marauders, the defending American Collegiate Hockey Association Men's Division 2 national champion, improves to 18-2-0-2 (W-L-OTL-T) on the season. UMary is 13-0-0-2 during this run, the second time the Marauders have had a 15-game unbeaten streak in the program's four-year existence. The school record is 16 games, set last season.
 
Following a scoreless first period the Marauders opened the scoring less than four minutes into the second. After successfully keeping the puck in the Marauders offensive zone, Drew Lenertz played the puck to Zach Garrett in the right corner. The reigning ACHA Player of the Year spotted Freeman on the left doorstep outside the crease and fired a perfect pass across the goal mouth. Freeman didn't hesitate and buried Garrett's pass in the back of the net for a 1-0 UMary lead. It was the 11^th goal of the season for Freeman.
 
The homestanding Lumberjacks pulled even at 15:24 on an Ian Amsbaugh goal to send the game into the second intermission tied at 1-1.
 
Tschida regained the lead for UMary midway through the third period. Picking up a loose puck just inside the blue line, the defenseman unleashed a laser from atop the slot into the upper right corner of the net for a 2-1 lead at 8:55.
 
In a game that featured over 80 combined shots, the Marauders were unable to expand their lead, leaving the door open for the Lumberjacks. Behind a tremendous effort fighting off a UMary skater, Tanner Clyne chased the puck nearly the length of the ice to score with 2:25 remaining in the game to knot the game at 2-2.
 
Hayden and Dakota College's Matt Trulsen kept both offenses at bay the rest of regulation and overtime. Hayden finished with 39 saves – including seven in overtime – and Trulsen stopped 41, making three saves in the extra session.
 
The Marauders won the shootout 2-0 as Alex Flicek and Johnny Witzke both found the back of the net while Hayden stopped both Lumberjacks efforts.
 
UMary next takes to the ice on Wednesday, Dec. 1, when the Marauders host the University of Jamestown M1 squad.
