Marauders take Thanksgiving Saturday showdown with Lumberjacks to Dickinson

ROAD SHOW
The University of Mary plays a home game on the road on Saturday, Nov. 27, when the Marauders host Dakota College of Bottineau in Dickinson, ND. The puck drops 6 pm Central/5 pm Mountain at the West  River Ice Center. Tickets are available online at www.UMaryTickets.com and at the door… The weekend set wraps up against the Lumberjacks on Sunday, Nov. 28, when the Marauders travel to Bottineau, ND. Game time is 6 pm at The Lumberdome (Bottineau Arena).
 
HOMECOMING
Andrew Heckaman and Jaren Hugelen return home on Saturday when the Marauders play in their hometown of Dickinson, ND. A defenseman, Heckaman is in his fourth season with the Marauders and is one of the program's original members. Hugelen, a forward, is in his second year at UMary. Both played major roles on UMary's ACHA national title team last spring. Game time in the neutral site game hosted by UMary against Dakota College is 6 pm Central/5 pm Mountain at the West River Ice Center.
 
RECORD
The Marauders are 17-2-0-1 (W-L-OTL-T) on the season.
 
RANKINGS
Defending American Collegiate Hockey Association Men's Division 2 national champion University of Mary topped the first two rankings of the season. In the rankings released Nov. 18, the Marauders were perched atop the national and West Region poll.

LAST WEEKEND
The Marauders had an opportunity to take on some of the nation's top teams last weekend in a three-game set at the Lindenwood Showcase… #1 UMary opened with a 4-1 win over #3 Liberty when the Marauders scored three goals in 47 seconds in the second period. The win evens the season record against the Flames at 2-2 with the Marauders winning the last two games… Down a goal in the third period, UMary found the equalizer to earn a 2-2 draw with weekend host and #5 Lindenwood. While it has no bearing on season records, the Marauders won the shootout over the Lions 2-1… In a rematch from the opening game of the 2021 ACHA national tournament, UMary downed Davenport 5-0 to close out the showcase. The Marauders opened the scoring just 29 seconds into the game on a goal by Garrett Freeman.

After their win streak was snapped after an 11-game run in a 2-2 draw with Lindenwood (3rd longest win streak in program history), the Marauders extended their unbeaten string to 13 games after a 5-0 win over Davenport. UMary is 12-0-0-1 in its last 13 games… The 13-game unbeaten mark is tied for the 4th longest in program history (16 in 2021-21, 15 in 2018-19, 14 in 2019-20, 13 in 2020-21).

The Marauders had killed off 44 straight power plays over the course of 11 games before Lindenwood broke the streak in a 2-2 draw against the Lions.
 
EVEN STEVEN
The Marauders have scored as many goals while skating shorthanded (4) as their opponents have scored on the power play (4).  
 
POWER PLAY
UMary are converting 32.4% of their power play opportunities into goals, scoring on 24 of 74 opportunities. Marauders opponents convert an anemic 6.6% (4-of-61) of its opportunities.

Zach Garrett joined Alex Flicek this season as the only two Marauders who have produced 200 points in their UMary careers.
 
IRON MEN
In the fourth season as a program since first taking to the ice in Sept. 2018, the Marauders have played 166 games. Defensive partners Marshall Tschida and Drew Lenertz have played in every game.
 
ALL IN
All 20 skaters who have played double digit games have scored a goal this season and all have multiple points.
 
TIMING
Ten Marauders have game-winning goals this season with Seth Cushing and Garrett Freeman posting three each. Connor Hanson has had impressive timing on his goals as two of his three counters are game-winners.
 
ROTATION
The Marauders played all three of their netminders last weekend and the trio of Conan Hayton, Kyle Hayden and Quinn Ackerman allowed just three goals while facing 74 combined shots as UMary won twice and tied once.
 
ACHA M2 CHAMPIONS
The Marauders are the defending 2021 American Collegiate Hockey Association Men's Division 2 national champions.
 
HONORS
Head coach Dan Huntley is the two-time ACHA M2 Coach of the Year… Zach Garrett is the 2021 ACHA M2 Player of the Year… Garrett, Johnny Witzke and Kyle Hayden were named to the 2021 All-American Team… UMary was named the 2021 NDAPSSA non-school Team of the Year.

TEDDY BEAR TOSS
The annual Teddy Bear Toss is set for Wednesday, Dec. 8, when the Marauders host Williston State College. Fans are encouraged to bring a new stuffed animal to the game to donate to the Community Action Backpack for Kids Program. When the Marauders score their first goal of the game, fans will throw their stuffed animal onto the ice to be collected for distribution to local children.
