Huntsberry, Urbonavicius combine for 43 for Marauders in 80-71 loss to Bronchos

EDMOND, OK – Kai Huntsberry and Gertautas Urbonavicius combined to score 43 points and Kam Warrens registered a double double for the University of Mary as the Marauders closed out opening weekend with an 80-71 loss to Central Region Classic host University of Central Oklahoma.

Huntsberry led the Marauders with 22 points, four assists and a pair of steals in just his second game with UMary. The guard added eight rebounds and knocked down 10-of-17 shots.

Urbonavicius also had an efficient night, making 8-of-15 shots from the floor while converting 3-of-4 free throws. The forward added six rebounds.

One night after leading the Marauders in scoring, Warrens hauled down a team-best 12 rebounds while collecting 12 points.

Matthew Johnson provided a spark off the bench with 10 points in just under 24 minutes of play. He joined Urbonavicius and Huntsberry with a pair of treys apiece.

The Marauders jumped out to a quick 8-3 lead but the homestanding Bronchos soon claimed an advantage that grew to as many as 13 before going into intermission up 43-32.

UMary started quickly in the second half as Urbonavicius opened with a two and followed with a trey. Treyton Mattern finished off an 8-0 run for UMary with a 3-pointer and the Marauders were back in the game at 43-40. It was as close as the Marauders would get the rest of the night against the Bronchos.

A late 9-0 run capped by a Johnson triple pulled the Marauders into a two-possession game at 76-71 with 63 seconds remaining but the Bronchos hit all four free throws to seal their win.

The Marauders shot just 40.9% from the floor for the game. While UMary finished 20-for-32 inside the arc, the Marauders were 7-for-34 on treys.

The Bronchos shot 45.6% for the game and made 12-of-27 behind the arc. Isaiah Wade had 20 points and 16 rebounds for Central Oklahoma. Jaden Wells hit 5-of-8 3-pointers and scored 20 points. Three other Bronchos scored 11.

The Marauders open their home schedule against Mayville State University at 7 pm on Tuesday, Nov. 16, at the McDowell Activity Center. It is the Marauders only home game in November.
