EDMOND, OK - The University of Mary women's basketball team gets ready for a three-game road trip as the Marauders travel to Edmond, OK, to take part in the Central Region Classic. UMary competes against Northeastern State University on Friday, November 12, at 1 pm. The Marauders then take on the University of Central Oklahoma on Saturday, November 13, at 5:30 pm.
UMary continues their road trip on Sunday, November 14, as the Marauders travel to Witchita, KS, to challenge Newman University at 2 pm.
Last Time Out
UMary went 1-2 in the D2CCA Tipoff Classic. The Marauders were defeated by Kutztown University 65-59 and Seton Hill University 74-59. UMary did earn a 67-62 victory over Nova Southeastern.
Megan Zander was named to the 2021 D2CCA Tip-Off Classic at the Trailhead All-Tournament Team. The junior averaged 12.3 ppg and 7.3 rpg. Zander's most notable game came against Seton Hill, where she scored 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the field while going 4-of-5 from behind the arc. Â
About The Opposition
Northeastern State University competes for the first time in the 2021 season. NSU went 6-16 in last year's Covid shortened season. Junior forward Zaria Collins returns after leading the Riverhawks in points per game (16.8 ppg) and rebounds (7.6 rpg). NSU's leading three-point shooter from last season was senior guard Morgan Lee, who shot 38.1 percent from three.
The University of Central Oklahoma went 14-9 in the 2020-21 season. Senior forward Kelsey Johnson led the team last season in scoring, averaging 18.9 ppg on 55.3% shooting from the field. Johnson also led UCO in rebounding with 9.7 rebounds per game. Leading the Bronchos in assists was freshman Avery Allen, who averaged 3.8 assists per game.
Newman University went 4-18 last season. Senior forward Faith Mason-Vestal is NU's leading returner as she averaged 10.2 ppg last year. Mason-Vestal also returns as the leading rebounder as she averaged 4.7 rebounds per game. Sophomore guard Sydney Niles returns as the Jets leader in assists as she averaged 2.9 assists per game. Â

Notable returners to the Marauders include
Macy Williams,
Lexie Schneider and
Megan Voit. Schneider led the NSIC in rebounding and was second on the team in scoring with 12.5 ppg.
Voit led the team in total three-pointers made with 22 while averaging 7.9 ppg.
Williams was first in the NSIC in assists with 75. Williams ranks 7
th all-time for the University of Mary in assists.

Head coach
Rick Neumann is fourth all-time in coaching wins at UMary with 133. In his ninth season, he has a record of 133-117. Hall of Fame coach Roger Haug is the Marauders all-time leader in wins (234), followed by Fred Fridley (170), Cal Collins (150) and Neumann (133).
UMary brought in two assistant coaches
Brooke LeMar and
Chloe Wanink for the 2020-21 season. LeMar was a two-time all-conference after spending her collegiate career at NCAA Division I North Dakota State University. She then went on to play professionally in several countries including Denmark, Germany, Australia and Sweden. LeMar worked as the Director of Player Development at the California Baptist University.
Wanink was a four-year all-conference performer at NCAA Division I Wofford University. She was a three-year captain at Wofford and led the Southern Conference in scoring her junior season averaging 21 points per game. She was named the 2019-20 SoCon Preseason Player of the Year and was named to the Nancy Lieberman Point Guard watchlist.
