GREAT FALLS, MT – The University of Mary exploded for four goals in the second period to skate past homestanding University of Providence 6-1 in the Marauders first meeting with the Argos since the American Collegiate Hockey Association Men's Division 2 national tournament.
Six different players scored on the night and five had multiple point games as UMary continues to display amazing scoring depth. In their last four games the Marauders have scored 6, 5, 10 and 6 goals. Only in one of the four games did UMary have a player score multiple goals in a night.
The Marauders improve to 9-2 with the program's fourth straight win. The Argos slip to 2-3.
After a scoreless opening period, the Marauders struck four times in the middle stanza.
Justin Ohnstad started the onslaught with a shorthanded goal at 2:05. Less than three minutes later the Argos pulled even on a goal by Leo Felt.
Tanner Eskro pushed the Marauders back in front 2-1 at 10:04. The knockout blows came in the final couple minutes of the period.
Kyler Moore found the back of the net at 17:58 before
Marshall Tschida propelled UMary into intermission leading 4-1 when he scored with 15 seconds on the clock.
A pair of power play goals late in the final period salted away the win for UMary.
Alex Flicek scored with a man advantage at 16:17 before
Garrett Freeman followed with a power play goal at 18:14.
Eskro, Freeman, Flicek and Moore all tacked on an assist to their goal.
Drew Lenertz had two assists.
Kyle Hayden stopped 19 shots for the Marauders on a night UMary held a massive 62-20 edge in shots, including a 46-10 advantage over the last two periods.
The Marauders finished 2-for-4 on power play opportunities while holding the Argos scoreless in four opportunities.
UMary wraps up their weekend excursion to Montana on Saturday, Oct. 30, at Montana State University. Game time is 8:30 pm CST in Bozeman, MT.
