BISMARCK, ND – For a second time this week, the University of Mary overwhelmed the University of Jamestown as nine different players scored for the Marauders. After defeating the Jimmies 5-1 on the road Wednesday to start the away-and-home series, the Marauders scored the first nine goals of Saturday's game on the way to a 10-1 victory in in American Collegiate Hockey Association Men's D2 action.
Alex Flicek scored twice for the Marauders and added an assist. UMary's all-time leading goal scorer posted the second and tenth goals of the game for UMary.
Marshall Tschida picked up four assists on the night and
Zach Garrett added three helpers as seven different Marauders posted multiple points.
Seth Cushing and
Tanner Eskro both had a goal and an assist for three points.
Garrett Freeman and
Riley Scanlon had a goal and an assist in UMary's win.
Before the fans had a chance to settle into their seats following the National Anthem, the Marauders were on the scoreboard as Freeman scored unassisted a scant 12 seconds into the contest. Flicek eventually doubled UMary's advantage at the 17:02 mark. Cushing and
Andrew Heckaman added the helpers on what proved to be the game-winning goal.
The Marauders doubled their scoring output in the second period, beating the Jimmies netminders four times as Cushing, Scanlon, Moore and Hugelen all tallied to increase the UMary lead to 6-0. The Moore counter came on a power play, UMary's only goal with a man advantage in six chances. Jamestown was 0-for-1 on power play opportunities.
Refusing to let up, the Marauders tacked on another four goals in the third. Derik Dropik,
Noah Scordato and Eskro all lit the lamp within the span of 52 seconds to increase the UMary advantage to 9-0 without any player scoring twice. After the Jimmies ended the Marauders run when Braeden Thomas scored at 4:39, Flicek became the first skater to tally multiple goals when he wrapped up the night's fireworks with 9:29 left in the game.
Making his first start in net, UMary goalkeeper
Quinn Ackerman was the beneficiary of the Marauders offensive eruption. He finished the night with 10 saves to record his first win.
UMary outshot Jamestown 66-11 in the one-sided affair.
The victory improved the Marauders record this season to 8-2. The Jimmies are 1-2.
