JAMESTOWN, ND – Back in North Dakota after playing its three previous games in Virginia, the University of Mary stunned homestanding University of Jamestown with a trio of first period goals in a 5-1 Marauders victory over the Jimmies in American Collegiate Hockey Association action.

Zach Garrett provide the early spark. With the Jimmies on the power play and hunting for the opening goal, it was Garret that provided the Marauders the initial lead with a shorthanded goal at 4:25 of the first period.
The Marauders took advantage of their own power play opportunity when
Garrett Freeman found the net at 13:05.
Isaiah Thomas and
Seth Cushing claimed assists to boost UMary's advantage to 2-0.
Another goal before the end of the first period put the Marauders out front 3-0 when
Marshall Tschida scored off helpers by
Kyler Moore and Garrett with only 4:58 left before the end of the first period.
The Jimmies scored just 37 seconds into the second period when Connor Rella beat Marauders All-American goalkeeper
Kyle Hayden for the only goal Hayden allowed on the night while stopping the other 23.
The home team hopes to jump back into the game faded fast when the Marauders retaliated 62 seconds later when
Johnny Witzke scored, using assists from Cushing and Thomas to increase the UMary lead to 4-1.
Jaren Hugelen closed the scoring with a goal with just 3:25 left in the game, taking an advantage of an assist from
Tanner Eskro.
The Marauders held a massive 65-24 edge in shots on frame and improved to 7-2 on the season. UMary finished 1-for-3 on the power play while UJ failed to score in three opportunities of their own. Both teams were whistled for five penalties covering 10 minutes.
Garrett led the Marauders with a goal and an assist as UMary had five different skaters find the net. Cushing and Thomas both had two assists.
The Marauders and Jimmies next meet Saturday, Oct. 23, in Mandan, ND. Faceoff is set for 7 pm at the Schwan Cadillac Arena Starion Sports Complex.
