ABERDEEN, SD - The University of Mary swimming team kicked off the 2021-22 season with victories over Northern State University and Concordia University, St. Paul. UMary defeated NSU 119-85 and CSP 146-52.
"I'm happy with our start to the season as the team brought enthusiasm and good energy to the deck. We are excited to get back to practice with some newfound focus and motivation," said head coach Leah Neiheisel.
The event began with the 200-yard medley relay. The team of
Breanna Lund,
Rylie Webb,
Breena DeLegge and
Madi Yonke earned the victory after posting a time of 1:53.14.
NCAA All-American
Andrea Lee claimed the 1000 free, recording a time of 10:53.97. Kori Riely (11:58.03) finished in third place.
Breena DeLegge won the 200 free, clocking in at 1:58.18. The junior also took home the 100 fly with a time of 58.95.
Allie Elliot (2:05.23) finished fourth in the 200 free, while
Rachel Bailey (2:05.55) placed fifth.
Freshman
Camille Merimee earned her first NCAA win after taking home the 50 free with a time of 25.58. The Strongsville, OH, native then won the 100 free after posting a time of 56.78.
Rylie Webb won the 200 IM after finishing with a time of 2:17.28. Webb then claimed the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:09.13.
Andrea Lee finished second in the 500 free, recording a time of 5:15.16.
Finishing off the event was the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of
Andrea Lee,
Allie Elliot,
Camille Merimee and
Mady Scherwinski took second after posting a time of 3:47.22.
