CROOKSTON, MN - University of Mary women's basketball team defeated the University of Minnesota Crookston 59-55 behind a pair of double doubles from
Lexie Schneider and
Lauren Rotunda.
The Golden Eagles jumped out in front of the Marauders and led 16-11 at the end of the first quarter. UMary closed the gap in the second quarter and trailed UMC 28-27 at the half.
The game was tied up 42-42 at the end of the third quarter as neither team could establish a lead. The Marauders held a seven-point lead in the fourth quarter before the Golden Eagles cut the lead to 57-55 with just three seconds remaining in the game. Rotunda then iced the game, hitting two critical free throws to give UMary the win at 59-55.
Rotunda recorded 18 points on 7-of-9 shooting and 10 rebounds in just 25 minutes of action. Schneider had a team-high 20 points and 11 rebounds.
Senior guard
Macy Williams had 10 points and contributed five assists. Sophomore forward
Reese Wishart scored a season-high six points, going 2-of-2 from the field and the free-throw line.
Kylie Post was the Golden Eagles leading scorer with 14 points.
The Marauders dominated the glass as they held a 42-29 rebounding advantage over the Golden Eagles. UMary lost the turnover battle to UMC as the Marauders committed 17 turnovers to 14 for the Golden Eagles.
The Marauders shot 38.6.% from the field, shooting 29.4% from behind the arc and going 10-of-13 from the free-throw line. The Golden Eagles shot 39.6.% from the field, shooting 28.6% from three and going 9-of-15 from the charity stripe.
UMary (2-5, 2-3 in the NSIC) will return to play University of Minnesota Crookston (2-7, 2-5 in the NSIC) on Saturday, January 30, at 1:30 pm.
