Weekend hockey series with Argos open to public with 300 free tickets available at gate

THIS WEEK
In the midst of a four-game homestand, the University of Mary hockey team hosts the University of Providence for a pair of games on Friday and Saturday, January 29-30. Face off is set for 7 pm both nights from the Starion Sports Complex Schwan Cadillac Rink.
 
MARAUDERS HOCKEY GAMES REOPEN TO GENERAL PUBLIC WITH 300 FREE TICKETS
For the first time since October, University of Mary hockey games are open to the general public. A limited number of 300 tickets are available to all Marauders hockey fans at the door on a first-come first-served basis. Admission is free. Fans must enter through the main entrance to the Starion Sports Complex Schwan Cadillac Rink. Doors will open one hour prior to competition.
 
Masking is required for all spectators in attendance regardless of state and local guidance. Additionally, fans must follow all Covid-19 safety, sanitation, and social distancing guidelines.
 
Fans in attendance are not permitted to sit or stand within at least twelve feet of the bench area, working staff, and playing surface. Visiting Spectators are asked to abide by the University of Mary campus social distancing rules, which can be found at www.umary.edu/COVID.
 
SCHEDULE UPDATE
With the cancellation of the MWCHL Tournament, the Marauders have added four games to their schedule in Missouri. UMary opens the trip at the University of Maryville on March 4 in Chesterfield, MO. The Marauders then move over to Maryland Heights, MO, for the next three games. On March 5 UMary meets Liberty University for the fourth time this season. Next up is host Lindenwood University on March 6. RECORDS
The Marauders are 18-1-2-1 (W-L-T-OTL) this season… Providence is 2-2-0-0. Both losses came against the Marauders. Both Argo victories came on the road last weekend at Williston State.
 
HISTORY
The Marauders are 3-2 against the Argos, including a 2-0 mark this season.
 
FAMILIARITY
UMary is in the midst of playing the University of Providence four times in the Marauders next five games and six times in 11.
 
HALFWAY
The Marauders have 22 games in the books and 21 remaining, not counting postseason opportunities.
 
LAST WEEK
UMary shut out Dakota College of Bottineau on Jan. 21 in the Marauders first home game of 2021. The Marauders scored three times in the first period. Kyle Hayden posted 25 saves in his fourth shutout of the season. Seth Cushing (one goal, one assist) and Andrew Heckaman (two assists) had multiple points for the Marauders.  
 
PULLING THE PLUG
The Marauders penalty kill unit has overwhelmed the opposition this season. During one recent stretch UMary had skated off 23 straight shorthanded situations over the span of six games, all victories. In UMary's last 14 games, opponents are 3-for-62 on power play opportunities… For the year the Marauders have allowed the opposition to score on just 9.8% (8-for-82) of their power play opportunities… Conversely the Marauders have scored on 30.7% (27-of-88) of their power play opportunities.
 
RANKED
After changes in schedules, the University of Mary are scheduled to play 19 games against teams ranked nationally in the final ACHA D2 and D1 polls from last season. The Marauders were ranked second in the final 2019-20 poll and spent several weeks atop the ratings. UMary's ranked ACHA Division 2 opponents are #1 Lindenwood, #3 Liberty (four games) and #12 Providence (six games). The Marauders ranked ACHA Division I foes are #5 Minot State (four games) and #12 University of Jamestown (four games)… Minot State is also a defending national champion… So far this season the Marauders are 5-1-2-1 against ranked opponents.
 
FOUR
The Marauders are in the midst of a four-game home stand before starting a stretch of six straight on the road and 9-of-10 on the road.
 
SUCCESS
In just three short seasons as a program, Marauders head coach Dan Huntley has led the UMary to a record of 96-15-4-4 overall. The Marauders finished 39-5-2-1 in their inaugural season of 2018-19 and 39-9-0-2 in 2019-20. UMary is 18-1-2-1 in 2020-21 (W-L-T-OTL).
 
GOAL SAVANT
In his second season with the Marauders, Seth Cushing continues to pile up the goals. Through 22 games he has a team-best 20 goals. Cushing also has 10 assists and 30 points. Three times he has posted the game-winning goal. In 72 career games Cushing has lit the lamp 57 times and has delivered 30 assists. Cushing is the fastest UMary player to reach 50 goals, needing just 61 games, ahead of Alex Flicek (68 games) and Andy Huber (89).
 
FLICEK FLYING
All-American Alex Flicek is off to an outstanding start. Through 22 games he is second on the team in goals (15), third in points (28) and sixth in assists (13). The Bismarck, ND, native earned 2019-20 ACHA D2 All-American honors after tallying 34 goals and posting 33 assists for a team-high 67 points. He scored nine game-winning goals, added two on power plays and one shorthanded. In 118 career games, Flicek has 85 goals, 66 assists and 151 points with 19 game-winning goals.
 
RUSH TIME
Marshall Tschida is incredibly adept at both stopping the opponent's offensive rush and leading the Marauders charge towards the opposing goal. The defenseman owns 16 assists this season – including six on power play goals – and six goals. For his career the third-year player has generated 114 points (32 goals and 82 assists) in 119 games. His play on both ends the rink has led UMary to outscore the opposition 561-209 in three seasons, including a 105-40 mark this year.
 
OLD FACES
The Marauders return 15 players from last season… Nine skaters are original members of the program entering their third season at UMary (Drew Lenertz, Alexander Horner, Marshall Tschida, Alex Flicek, Cyril Nagurski, Andrew Heckaman, Andrew Huber, Zach Garrett, Kyler Moore)… Six players are in their second year with the Marauders (Seth Cushing, David Ruiz, Cody Shepard, Noah Scordato, Johnny Witzke, Kyle Hayden)… The Marauders have nine players in their first season with UMary.
 
I WANT MOORE
Third-year player Kyler Moore has reached triple digits for career points at UMary. The native of Firestone, CO, owns 108 career points. This season he has produced eight goals and 15 assists for 23 points. Moore has four power play goals and owns three game-winners.
 
CAPTAIN
Team captain Zach Garrett entered the 2020-21 season second all-time in points at UMary with 116. Able to both find the net and teammates, Garrett had 23 goals and 36 assists for 59 points last season after contributing 54 points (19 goals and 35 assists) in 2018-19. This year he owns eight goals and 21 assists for 29 points. He is sitting at 50 career goals and owns 142 points. 
 
POWER PLAYER
Drew Lenertz directs a potent power play for the Marauders. The third-year defenseman has 78 career points in 119 games. Seven of his goals have come on the power play, along with a program-record 30 assists. He has three goals (two on a power play) and 12 assists (three on a power play) this season. 
 
BRICK WALL
The Marauders net-minding duo of Kyle Hayden and Conan Hayton have been spectacular and own incredibly similar numbers. In his second season at UMary, Hayden is 9-0-1-1 with a 1.98 goals against average, a 93.4 save percentage and four shutouts. His four shutouts is one shy of the school record of five, set by both Lance Knutson and Aaron Nelson... Hayton, in his first season at UMary, is 9-1-1-0 with a 1.7 GAA, a 94.0 save percentage and two shutouts.
 
A PLUS PLUS PLUS
Johnny Witzke is +24 this season to pace the Marauders in +/- rankings. The dynamic skater has been on the ice for 24 more UMary goals than opponent's goals when teams are at even strength or while scoring a shorthanded goal. Individually the multi-dimensional Witzke has five goals and 16 assists for 201 points this season… Just behind Witzke at +21 is Kyler Moore, followed by Alex Flicek (+20), Drew Lenertz (+20) and Seth Cushing (+20)…. All Marauders skaters are at least even with no skaters featuring a negative number.  
 
MILESTONES
A pair of Marauders reach career milestones in the Marauders 6-5 win at Dakota College on Dec. 6. Zach Garrett scored his 50th career goal at UMary against DC. Garrett previously had played for the Lumberjacks… Kyler Moore reached 100 career points in his Marauders career with a second period assist in the same game.
 
NEXT UP
After a midweek home game against Dakota College on Wednesday, Jan. 3, the Marauders visit the University of Minnesota Crookston on Feb. 6-7. This is the first season UMC has competed in the ACHA.
