Record-Breaking Season For Marauders Comes To An End With Quarterfinals Loss To Mavericks

SIOUX FALLS, SD – The University of Mary's record-breaking season has come to an end with an 81-59 loss in the Northern Sun women's basketball tournament quarterfinals to Minnesota State. The Marauders were led by none other than Cassie Askvig who concluded her Marauders career with a 22 point performance. Megan Voit joined Askvig in double figures with 10 points, including nine in the first half.
 
UMary concluded their historic season with a 22-11 record, breaking the NCAA era wins record by three victories. The season also included Cassie Askvig breaking a UMary and Northern Sun single game scoring record with 45 points. In the same game, she broke UMary's single game free throws made record with 17 in the game.
 
FIRST HALF BREAKDOWN
The Mavericks were able to control the first half, taking a 51-34 lead into the intermission. MSU knocked down 53.8 percent of their shots from the field and 83.3 percent from deep while forcing the Marauders into nine turnovers. The three pointer was falling for the Marauders, knocking down six-of-twelve from deep in the first half including five-of-seven in the second quarter. With three of those treys was freshman Megan Voit who went three-for-five from deep to lead the Marauders with nine points. Joining Voit with nine points was Cassie Askvig. Coral Gillette pitched in six points of a pair of treys.
 
SECOND HALF BREAKDOWN
The Mavericks were able to extend the lead in the second half, building up to a 31 point lead at the end of the third. The Marauders were able to finish strong, outscoring the Mavericks 16-7 in the fourth quarter. Cassie Askvig took over in the second half, dropping 13 of her 22 points.
