Springsteen, Huber Punch Their Tickets To NCAA Championships

SIOUX FALLS, SD – The University of Mary wrestling team's Braydon Huber and Phillip Springsteen punched their tickets to the NCAA Championship, each earning second place at the NCAA Super Regionals V. The Marauders had three other wrestlers place at regionals to finish seventh overall as a team with 55 points.
 
Phillip Springsteen (174) was absolutely dominant in his first two matches of the day, pinning both opponents. Springsteen began the day with a win over Edgar Heredia of UW Parkside at 4:17. He followed that up with a win by fall over Myron Crawford of Upper Iowa in 6:56 to advance to the Championship match. The redshirt-junior fell in the championship match by a 10-0 major decision to #4 Kolton Eischens.
 
Braydon Huber (157) started his day 2-0 without allowing a single point to be scored against him. The redshirt-freshman won his first bout over Walker Carr of Northern State 5-0. He followed that up with a 3-0 win over Cooper Siebrecht of Minnesota State. In the championship match, Huber would narrowly fall to #2 Jake Barzowski 4-2 to place second at Super Regionals.
 
Austin Eichmann (184) earned a fourth place finish in his final action in a Marauders singlet. After the senior dropped his first bout of the day by a 9-1 major decision he began to battle his way back, earning tough wins in the next two matches. Eichmann took down Cole Hennen of Southwest Minnesota State by a 4-2 sudden victory and followed it up with a 10-9 decision over Kolby Kost of Augustana to advance to the third place match with a chance to punch his ticket to the NCAA Championships. He would earn himself a rematch with Hahn of UIU with the winner earning a spot at nationals. Eichmann would narrowly fall 4-2 to finish fourth.
 
Laken Boese earned a sixth place finish at 133 lbs.  The Marauders freshman went 2-3 on the day, picking up his wins by an 18-6 major decision over Jackson Stauffacher of SMSU and a fall (5:17) over Lucas Hagel over Minnesota State.
 
Dominic Tudor finished in sixth place at 285 lbs. Tudor went 1-3 on the day with his win coming by a 4-2 decision over Nate Lloyd over UW Parkside.
 
Springsteen and Huber will be back in action for the Marauders at the NCAA Championships March 13-14 in Sioux Falls, SD.
