White, Sipes pace Marauders in road loss to Wolves

ABERDEEN, SD – Jaylan White and Josh Sipes paced the University of Mary men's basketball team with 13 points apiece in the Marauders 77-63 road loss against the Northern Sun-leading Northern State University.

Both White and Sipes had solid nights for the Marauders, combining to make 10-of-17 shots from the floor and all four free throws the duo attempted. A senior, White was 5-for-9 from the floor, 2-for-2 at the line, distributed five assists and grabbed four rebounds. Sipes, a redshirt freshman, came off the bench to hit 5-of-8 shots and both free throws while snaring four rebounds.

Glenn Jordan added nine points and Matthew Kreklow eight for UMary. Kreklow also had four rebounds and two blocks on the night. The junior post was +2 in the scoring column but was only able to play 14:55 before fouling out.

Parker Fox paced all players with 27 points and nine rebounds for the Wolves. He also had two blocks. Gabe King added 15 points and nine rebounds.

A hard-fought first half, the Wolves scored the first eight points of the game. The Marauders battled back and used a 13-2 run to grab a 13-10 lead on a 3-ball from Sipes. The lead changed hands a handful of times before the Beavers entered intermission leading 38-34.

The Wolves, who hold a one-game lead in the NSIC standings with one game left to play in the regular season, grabbed control early in the second, using a 9-4 run to build an 11-point lead. The Marauders cut their deficit to single digits a couple times but couldn't close any closer than nine.

UMary (11-16 overall, 6-15 NSIC) shot 40.7 percent for the game. Northern State (21-6, 17-4) hit on 59.6 percent of its field goal attempts.

The Marauders close out the regular season at MSU Moorhead on Saturday, Feb. 22. Tip off is 5:30 pm.
