Berube, Trout Blast Homeruns As Marauders Earn Split With Win Over Simon Fraser

LAS VEGAS, NV – The University of Mary softball team earned a split on day two of the Desert Stinger, picking up their first win of the season. Madelynn Trout and Haley Berube both blasted their first homeruns of the season in today's games with Mikaela Pelesauma posting a pair of multi-hit games. After a 5-2 extra inning loss to Concordia, the Marauders rallied together a five run sixth inning to claim a 7-6 come from behind victory over Simon Fraser University.
 
With today's split the Marauders improve to 1-3 to begin the season.
 
GAME 1 University of Mary 2 Concordia (Ore.) 5
Seven innings wasn't enough for the Marauders and Cavaliers, heading to a deciding eighth inning to determine a winner. With the score tied at one, UMary and CU took on the eighth inning. The Cavaliers posted four runs at the top of the eighth to take a 5-1 lead. The Marauders came out in the bottom of the eighth inning, looking to even things up. Rachael Laetsch knocked in UMary's second run of the game, bringing the score to 5-2 with only one out. The Marauders were unable to make the game any closer, grounding into a double play the next at bat.
 
PIVOT POINT
With two down in the top of the eighth inning, CU was able to break the tie by knocking in a run, followed by a double and homerun that knocked in an additional three runs giving the Cavaliers a 5-1 lead. UMary was able to add a run to make it 5-2 in the bottom of the eighth but that was as close as they could get.

STAT OF THE GAME
Haley Berube only took three games to blast off her first homerun of the season. She did it when she launched a ball into centerfield to get the Marauders on the board in the first inning. Berube has now hit her first homerun of her freshman and sophomore season during the third ballgame of the year.

GAME 2 UMary 7 Simon Fraser 6
The Marauders got their bats going against the Clan, recording 12 hits with three athletes posting a multi-hit game. Madelynn Trout and Kaitlyn Alvarado each posting three. Brooke Harder earned the win from the mound for UMary. A trout homerun in the first inning got the Marauders on the board, SFU evened the score up at 2-2 at the end of the first. The Clan posted four runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-2 lead but that did not deter the Marauders. UMary exploded for five runs in the sixth inning to claim a 7-6 lead, which held until the end.
  
PIVOT POINT
Trailing 6-2 heading into the sixth inning, UMary tallied five runs in the inning to take a 7-6 lead. Trout got the Marauders going by singling to knock in Keller. That was followed up by an Alvarado single that sent home Berube. The Marauders then posted two runs when Devyn Ritz reached on an error, pushing in two runners. With the bases loaded, Mariah Sanchez drew a walk to send in the eventual game winning run.

STAT OF THE GAME
In just her fourth game in a Marauders uniform, Mikaela Pelesauma has already posted three multi-hit games. Pelesauma posted a pair of hits in both games today and two hits in one of the games yesterday. She has a team high of seven hits so far.
 
UP NEXT
The Marauders will be back in action tomorrow, February 2 against Oklahoma Baptist at 4 PM CST to conclude their play at the Desert Stinger in Las Vegas.
