MANDAN, ND –
Tanner Eskro erupted for a pair of goals as University of Mary overwhelmed visiting Dakota College at Bottineau 6-1 in ACHA men's hockey. Playing their first game in nearly three weeks, the Marauders held a massive 58-23 edge in shots over the Lumberjacks.
Eskro tallied the only goal of the opening period before playing a major role in a flurry of second period goals.
In the span of a wild 78 seconds in the middle stanza, the Marauders would lose the lead before eventually doubling their advantage. Dakota College struck first when Ryan Patterson pulled the Lumberjacks even with a power play goal at 8:17. Just 25 seconds later, Eskro found the net once again to regain the lead for UMary. It was the fifth goal of the season for the Fridley, MN, native and his first game-winning goal in a Marauders sweater.
Alexander Horner finished the run of goals at 9:35, pushing the UMary advantage to 3-1.
The Marauders offensive fireworks continued in the third period as UMary scored three times.
Johnny Witzke delivered a power play goal at 3:39 before
Marshall Tschida and
Kyler Moore both took turns finding the net.
Moore's goal was the 100
th career point the Firestone, CO, native has scored in his Marauders career.
Eskro was one of several Marauders posting multiple points in the game. Tschida and Witzke both had a goal and an assist while
Zach Garrett and
Justin Ohnstad had two assists apiece. Both Ohnstad's assists came on the two goals by Eskro.
Conan Hayton finished the night with 22 saves for the Marauders while Matt Trulson had 52 for the Lumberjacks.
The Marauders (12-1-2-1) and the Lumberjacks (0-2-0-1) wrap up their weekend home-and-home series on Sunday, December 6, a 6 pm in Bottineau, ND.
